Dog Waste

Dog Waste

13th of January, 2024

Firstly, Sabden Parish council want to say a big thank you to all our resident dog owners who meticulously clean up after their dogs. We don’t have any real issues with dog waste not being picked up, just isolated incidents here and there and we want to keep it this way.

The main reason for the article is to let you know that SPC have recently had issues with the dog waste bins being overfilled, it is probably due to the Christmas Holidays and people being out and about more than usual.  But it has resulted in bins overflowing and dog bags being left around the bins and on the floor, unfortunately Ribble Valley Council workers will not pick them up when they come to empty the bins.  Also, if the bins are overflowing and any excess bags drop on the floor they don’t get picked up either.

It is easy for us dog walkers just to place it in the bin and then forget about it but someone else has the not so nice job to dispose of it all.

If this issue keeps happening, we risk losing our dog waste bins as the challenge from Ribble Valley Council is that dog waste can now go in with normal waste.

To alleviate the situation SPC is asking if the bin is full please can you find another bin to use, we have lots of bins around the village or if you are near home take it with you and put it in your own purple bin. Again, dog waste can legally go in with normal household waste (burgundy bins) and there are lots of black bins around the village.  Please don’t leave it on top of the bins or on the floor around it.

We appreciate your support.
