Road Safety Campaign for Sabden
10th of July, 2022
Sabden Parish Council are working with Andy Pratt Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner to look at the options available to tackle the issues that are affecting our road safety within our village. Andy made a visit to Sabden on Tuesday 7th June where he attended Sabden Parish Council meeting. The meeting was very positive where Andy explained that resources are being increased to road policing and there are different campaigns which are dedicated to reducing dangerous driving. Andy stated that the Constabulary's objectives on tackling crime have changed from reducing to prevention and there will be a targeted approach to address rural speeding with enforcement, amongst many other initiatives. There are plans to use Community RoadWatch where communities and partners will be encouraged to play a full active part in making Lancashires' roads a safer place. This is visible in The Police and Crime Plan for Lancashire 2021-2025, you can read more about this at the website Lancashire-pcc.gov.uk.
Members of the public attended the meeting and expressed their views and concerns of what is needed in the village including a zebra crossing, extra signage, safety measures on side roads and width of pavements. Sabden Parish Council would like to thank those members of the public who took the time to attend the meeting.
Andy advised that the first step the council should take is to obtain evidence of the traffic volumes, including average speeds and by the hour, so the council are looking to obtain a covert radar device which will anonymously monitor the traffic and collect the data needed which will provide statistics and evidence of how our roads are being used. This will then enable the police to deploy further measures to tackle those drivers who do not abide by laws of the road.
The council are taking other steps including exploring ways to obtain high tech speed indicator devices which can be used in the village. We will keep you updated as we progress. You will also notice slow down save life bin stickers being distributed around the village on main roads and councillors are asking for support of the villagers to display those stickers. A banner will also be displayed on the wall outside Brookside Garages and big thank you to them for their support in displaying the sign.
If you would like bin stickers please contact Councillors Karen Buckley or Sue Clarke at 6 & 26 Gardners Row.
