6th of January, 2021

Are you concerned for your Safety ?

Are you concerned for your Childrens Safety and that of your neighbours ?

We need your help !

The Parish council is looking for volunteers to join a community Road Watch Group to look at the issues, raise awareness and work towards making our village a safer place.

Anyone wishing to volunteer please contact clerk@sabdenparish.org.uk

Following representations from residents, the Parish Council wrote to LCC Highways about traffic and pedestrian safety and received the following disappointing response

Thank you for your email of 2 December 2020 concerning speeding on Clitheroe Road and Padiham Road, Sabden.

In relation to your concerns about the speed of traffic, we work closely with the Police as part of the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership to target locations where casualties and speeds are higher. If there is an evidenced safety issue, we will look to introduce appropriate mitigation measures.

Having previously assessed Clitheroe Road, we installed temporary signage to help remind drivers to think about their speed between April and June 2020 and between October and December 2020 to maximise the effect of the message. Clitheroe Road will also be considered by Lancashire Constabulary as a site for mobile enforcement.

After investigation, there is no clear speeding issue on Padiham Road that would justify action from the Speed Management Team. However, there is a community toolkit on our website, which gives examples of how local residents can raise awareness of road safety issues in their local area. If residents witness regular incidents of nuisance or dangerous driving, the Police advice is that they contact them directly, with a record of the registration numbers of the vehicles. This can be done via the non-emergency phone number 101 or online through the Lancashire Constabulary website at:  https://doitonline.lancashire.police.uk/
