Sowing of Wildflower Seeds
8th of May, 2023
The Best Kept Village team is committed to environmental issues and we have recently being sowing wildflower seeds around the village in small patches so that hopefully we will see pockets of wildflowers in the summer months.
There are some along the side of the brook on the Lower Holme, alongside the wall on the river walk, on the grassy patch near Stubbins Vale and the banking at the bottom of Clitheroe Road – and we still have more to sow.
We have left markers where we have sown seeds so everyone is aware of where the seeds are and can watch them grow.
We are extremely grateful to the Bowling Club who purchased the seeds for us.
These pockets of wildflowers add to the wildflower gardens already in the village – Norman Crompton’s near the Bowling Club and the two Parish Council areas by Jubilee Bridge and near the Milking Parlour.
We hope that by sowing these seeds the wildflowers will add colour to each area and interest for our residents but more importantly will encourage the bees and butterflies which are sadly in decline.
